As many of us come into the idea that Jesus returned just as he told His diciples He would we run into what now. Preterism states 1000 yrs means forever, completed. We the people are the new heaven and earth and the sea refers to nations or something other than a body of water collected together. I just heard another guy teaching that the 2 witnesses in Revelation is symbolic for the Law- Moses and prophets- Elijah who were on the Mt of transfiguration whom Jesus fulfills all the law and prophets became the two witnesses at his death and resurrection. While Revelation literally says their 2 bodies will lie in the streets. 2 bodies! This preterism thing has me shaking my head for sure and as I can see the significance of symbolism in the bible that's clearly there I cannot take the words of John and try to make them symbolic to mean that all of Revelation has been fulfilled and we live in this world that never passes away and things are always getting better in this church age. Rev 20, Satan's little season along with the reign of Christ coming to an end after the 1000 years needs better teachers than just preterist making everything symbolic. Much love and thank you for this!
Wonderful read! I agree whole heartedly with it's conclusion. I had determined the same from my own studies a while back (ironically after reading Randy Alcorns book, Heaven).
Just a thought though (since I will be sharing this :) when you make the point that saying "and there was no more sea" is redundant and unnecessary when a few verses earlier the earth and heavens had fled away, I feel like the point is lost a little bit since it says there was a "new earth" made, and people will logically assume it was created *with* a sea (like our current one), therefore John saying "and there was no more sea" would still be a logical thing to say if the new earth was created without a sea. I say this only to help further understanding and clarity.
Actually, you make a good point. I'm re-reading the verse again. Perhaps the line that says 'for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away' could have parentheses, 'and there was no more sea' could be seen as applied only to the New Earth, although the context seems to point to the barrier above. Nevertheless, I may modify the article because I agree with you. Re: Alcorn's book on Heaven, I had one that was soooo marked up, I used it all the time and over the years I gave at least 30 of them away because it was such a favorite of mine. Since then, everything I thought I knew has crumbled away and I am re-learning all over again. There have been some difficult moments along the way but the truth is so worth it! Thank you for the feedback, you are a kindred spirit!
Thank you for all of your work! I am thrilled to have a kindred-spirit articulating things that I yearn to, but in a lot of ways I do not yet have the wisdom and knowledge to give it proper depth and structure on page.
Thank you Sarah, you have more insight than you give yourself credit for and I'm grateful to have your input, keep the feedback coming as you are able :-)
Havnt read yet, just wanted to say thank you and I'm super exited to see what you have!
